Schema Markup for AEO

Use structured data to represent visible facts accurately while avoiding unsupported promises about answer-engine placement.

Use markup as a truthful representation

Select vocabulary that accurately describes the main visible entity and content. Organization, Product, Article, and FAQPage types serve different purposes. Add properties only when the value is supported on the page and maintained by a responsible owner.

Follow eligibility and content policies

Google's structured-data policies require markup to represent visible, relevant content and prohibit misleading information. Valid syntax does not guarantee a rich result or AI inclusion. Feature availability and eligibility can differ by content type and platform.

Validate syntax, inspect rendered HTML, monitor Search Console where applicable, and retest after template changes. Also verify that canonical URLs and entity identifiers remain stable.

Avoid schema theater

Do not add FAQ markup to invented questions, mark promotional copy as independent reviews, or declare unsupported ratings and credentials. If a fact is important enough to encode, make it useful and understandable to the reader first.

FAQ

Q: Does FAQ schema make a page appear in AI answers? A: No. It can clarify page structure, but platforms independently determine retrieval and presentation.

Q: Is more schema better? A: No. Prefer accurate, relevant, maintained markup over a large graph of weak or unsupported properties.
